Alan J. Toback has been practicing law for nearly four decades. Mr. Toback focuses on matrimonial and family law with extensive experience in contested divorces including matters dealing with custody, visitation, children's issues, parentage, domestic violence, post-divorce modification and enforcement, and pre- and postnuptial agreements. He also excels in cases involving complex financial strategies, business valuations, and tax issues in divorce and family law cases.

Mr. Toback is an award-winning attorney, having been named one of the Top Attorneys in Illinois for 2020 and named in the Top 1% of America’s Most Honored Professionals in 2019. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (“AAML”). Of the several thousand family law attorneys in the State of Illinois, fewer than 150 are Academy Fellows. To earn the distinction of Fellow, these remarkable lawyers, most with decades of experience in family law, have sustained the highest principles in their practice and passed a rigorous review process. Year after year, Alan Toback is rated so highly by his peers that he earns the award of AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. Toback has authored numerous articles and nationally published books, including articles in the Family Law Handbook and The Chicago Daily Law Bulletin. Most recently, Mr. Toback organized and moderated the panel “Guardians ad litem and Child Reps: Can’t Live with Them; Can’t Live Without Them…. Or Can We?” as well as a panel on the topic “Lawyer Assisted Mediation – It Does Work….Just Not Always.”

In the case of In Re: Marriage of Walgreen, Mr. Toback successfully defended Loren Walgreen against her in-laws' attempts to terminate her parental rights and adopt her children. In Re: Marriage of Reynolds, Mr. Toback successfully achieved the return of former Congressman Melvin Reynolds' children to the State of Illinois after an alleged wrongful taking of the children to the State of Florida.
