Dangerous Spike in Domestic Violence Rates

As the “stay in place” orders continue, police departments around the country and here in Chicago are seeing an increasing rise in incidents of Domestic Violence. Things have become so bad world-wide that on Sunday UN Secretary General Antonio Gutteres called on “governments for urgent action to put women’s safety first as they respond to the pandemic.”

Domestic Violence affects men, women, and children. During the pandemic, parties are virtually locked in with their abusers. While these “stay in place” orders are necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19, one does not need to suffer at the hands of his or her abuser.

Victims of domestic abuse are encouraged to call attorneys for help in Chicago and surrounding counties. Domestic Violence court is available to issue Orders of Protection, orders for the exclusive possession of your home, and other protective remedies to keep you safe.
